A 12 Year Reflection
Our long-time staff of 12 years, Timmy Ng, has sensed God’s call to move to a different ministry. His last day in the church office will be 31st Mar 2020. These are his thoughts:
In 2007, Cindy and I went to the parsonage to sign a document that would mark the beginning of our ministry together. It was a day where we felt a cocktail of emotions – hopeful, challenged and nervous – all at the same time.
Over the years serving in youth ministry, my family and I have experienced many things that saddened us. We saw youths we have journeyed with leave the faith altogether and a few even got into trouble with the law. We experienced different motivational levels, working styles and personality clashes – all the issues that come with church ministry. I too made mistakes.
Yet, our merciful and patient God blessed us with many things: being in authentic relationships, serving together with likeminded and passionate saints, witnessing God changing hearts and bringing the lost back to Himself. There was the opportunity to watch youths grow from being bystanders to becoming active leaders serving others. I journeyed with people through various life stages and difficult situations. Moreover, many people have also blessed us with prayers, time, love gifts, skilled help and encouragement.
I am very grateful for being able to do a theological degree, having ‘space’ to try new ways of ministry and the grace to set right many mistakes I made.
Today, feeling those familiar feelings that Cindy and I felt twelve years ago returned, because come April 2020, I am embarking on a new ministry. I will be serving with the Methodist Church in Singapore, as a Christian Ministry Staff (CMS) in one of the fifteen Methodist schools locally.
Please do continue to pray for my family and as we serve youths and their families in this new setting; to build them up and tell them about God’s love through Christ. We seek for God’s wisdom and strength as we adapt to the changes. We will still continue our personal ministry in Zion Bishan. May God help us fulfil our family’s goal of serving Him and His people for life (Joshua 24:15), and not to slack.
Thank you,
my family in Christ, for all these years.
