Prayer Points 5 September 2021
Our Church
Catechism Class – Even as we joyfully received several adults and children into membership last week, a new catechism class just started yesterday. Pray for the 20+ catechumens as they learn the doctrines of the church, practise spiritual disciplines and reflect on their walk with Jesus. Pray that each new member will find an AG that they can continue their journey of faith.
Our People
Teachers Day – We thank God for all the teachers in our midst! For those working in schools, pray for God’s grace to be upon them especially during these challenging COVID years and in the handling of recent tragedies among the youth. Pray that they will be a shining light for Jesus in their schools and be an encouragement to their students. For those who teach us biblical and spiritual truths, pray and thank God as they use their spiritual gifts weekly to serve, bless and grow the body of Christ. May our teachers find rest in Christ during this September school holidays.
Our World
Afghanistan – With the departure of US forces, the Afghan people are facing much uncertainty and fear. Pray for God’s peace to come and for the new government to stabilise the political and economic situation in the country. Pray especially for the estimated 10 million Afghan children who need humanitarian aid. Drought and conflict has led to this vulnerable community needing protection, water, sanitation, food aid, health and education. (The Straits Times, 1 Sep). Pray also for the believers in this country to stand firm, and to continue in the hope of the sovereign goodness of our Heavenly Father.
India – Our partner in North East India request prayers for a replacement site for one of their day care centres (DCC) for children in an unreached neighbourhood as the owner is planning to sell part of the land. May our Lord also bless the work of the several DCCs under this partner to bring the good news of Christ to both the children and their parents.
In North India, a partner is hosting a training programme for leaders from remote villages. Pray for the team as they come together to be equipped and be strengthened to be gospel bearers in their communities.
Philippines – Our partner, Student Missionary Outreach, celebrated their anniversary on 31 Aug. We praise God for the many youths and young adults impacted by this ministry that has been shining for Jesus in the high schools and colleges around Philippines for 44 years. May the Lord continue to bring them good youth workers as the gospel work grows. May they also find effective and creative ways to continue engaging the youths through digital means as COVID-19 changes the way they have been able to engage with students.
