Everyone Missional Everywhere

By Mr Timothy Ong

Many hearts are hungry tonight
Many trapped in darkness yearn for the Light
So many who are far from home, and many who are lost
O Lord, Your wounded children need

The power of Your Cross[1]

The truth is, many in our world have yet to receive the light and knowledge of salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ. What difference would it make if we were certain of the part we each play in God’s Mission? And what if each one of us were intentional about our witness for Christ wherever we went? Imagine the difference that we can make for the Gospel – Everyone Missional Everywhere!

Just as we have been challenged through Missions Month this year, all of us are on Mission!
Discipleship and Missions are integrally intertwined – to be a disciple is to be on Mission. We are witnesses for Christ regardless of our calling & vocation, in every season of life! Whether it is in the way we engage culture around us, or through our work and at our workplaces, we can be displaying God’s heart for all things to be united to Him in Christ! (Eph 1:9-10) A simple way in which we can be attuned to God’s harvest is to think about the affinity groups we are placed in, to see where and how God is already working, and to partner with Him there. Our workshops also shed light on specific affinities that we may have a heart for, or contexts that we often find ourselves in; in particular the refugees, migrant workers, and our workplaces.

I personally appreciated how the theme for Missions Month this year made Mission relatable and relevant for everyone. My journey in missions first began when I opened my eyes to the unreached around me and recognised the need to discern what God is already doing through His Spirit. I was challenged too, that if I were to grow in telling others about the Good News, I have to be more and more convinced of how great and glorious this Good News is!

Have you found your place in God’s mission? Would you like to know where and how to start? Wherever you are at in your missions journey, the pastoral and missions teams are here to support you. Share with us your thoughts and reflections at bit.ly/ZBemesurvey by 15 August.

Just as Jesus commissioned His disciples in Matt 28:19-20, let us not be content to think about the Mission of God only once a year during Missions Month. As followers of Jesus, each one of us are sent by our Lord Jesus to be daily on Mission for Him. Let us be praying that:

(a) The goodness of the Gospel will continue to grow deep in our hearts;
(b) His Mission remains our foremost priority, that we will #GetLost all throughout the year, every year.
