Everyone Mature in Christ (#GetDeep)
By Ps Dev Menon
Ephesians 4:11-12 He gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherd-teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ…
Over the last 3 months, the pastors and elders have had 3 retreats. Our conclusion was that the most important thing we need to do for the next season of growth at Zion Bishan is to focus on discipleship. And by discipleship – we mean ‘personal discipleship’.
We want to see every individual in this church being personally discipled; that is to say discipled by a trained person, for a reasonable period of time, using the Word of God, under the guidance of a shepherd-teacher (pastor/elder). It was very encouraging to hear that all our pastors and elders already do this to some extent!
Why is this important? So that everyone feels welcomed, loved and cared for, but also, as we’ve been hearing in the book of Ephesians, so that every saint is equipped to minister to one another – to speak the truth of the gospel to one another. When every member is equipped, then each part works properly, and the whole body is built up (Eph 4:15-16) – not just our church, but we can build up whole Body of Christ. I believe you will be hearing more about this during today’s sermon.
So my question to each of you is – have you been personally discipled? Has someone walked alongside you for a season to intentionally help you #getdeep in the knowledge of Christ, equipping you to be able to speak the truth in love to your neighbour? If not, is this something you would like to embark on? Please approach the pastor or elder in charge of your congregation, and we will try to arrange something for you.
