Day 1:
Last week, in 5:11-6:20, we were shown what Christian maturity looks like, and warned about the dangers of being immature:
Take some time to reflect on where you would place yourself in this diagram according to the descriptions given in the passage. Spend some time praying to our Father about where you are at, and asking His help in growing in maturity to have the full assurance of hope until the end.
Day 2:
Read Hebrews 6:19-7:28. The author brings us back to the topic of Jesus being the High Priest, and wants us to mature in this area. Recall what we learnt about our great High Priest in 4:14-5:10. What did this mean for you personally?
Day 3:
Read Genesis 14:17-20. Read Hebrews 6:19-7:28. again. What does the author teach us about Melchizedek? Why would this reference to Abraham be especially important to the original readers? How does the author add to what we know so far about Jesus as our High Priest? Why is this important to you today?
Day 4:
Read Hebrews 6:19-7:28. again. How exactly is Jesus superior to the Levitical Priesthood? Do a compare and contrast table between them and see what you might learn.
*Bonus*: There are some connections to previous parts of Hebrews:
1) What are some repeated terms used in this second part of our passage from earlier in Hebrews (*hint v20-21, v28 etc)?
2) Psalm 110:4 is quoted. Where has Psalm 110 been quoted before, and how does that help us understand who Jesus is?
You might find a visual of the tabernacle layout helpful – you can access it here.
Day 5:
Re-read 6:19-7:28 again. Why do we need this High Priest from the better Order of Melchizedek today?
Spend some time speaking to God our Father about what we’ve learnt from this week’s passage about our great High Priest. Spend time giving thanks for Him, and asking that we live with a greater appreciation of Him as our High Priest from now onwards.
