Hebrews #17 Chapter 11
Day 1:
Read Hebrews 10:35-39 again. How is the author encouraging the church here? Why does he quote the Old Testament (Habbakuk 2:3-4) here?
Spend some time praying for our hearts to be even further grown in this coming chapter.
Day 2:
We enter into the final section of the letter this week, where the author tells us up front and through repetition what the big topic is: Faith.
Read Hebrews 11:1-3. What is the author saying about faith here? How does the theme of ‘faith’ here connect with all that we have heard so far in Hebrews e.g. “assurance” and “things not seen”?
Day 3:
Read Hebrews 11:1-16. What is the author teaching us about faith through the OT saints he mentions here? How does the author summarise what all of these saints so far have in common?
Day 4:
Read Hebrews 11:1-40. Take a step back and ask: what do we learn here about faith, and how does faith relate to God’s promises? Why is the author telling the church all these things given all that we know about their situation?
Why might you need this lesson in faith this week?
Day 5:
It’s obvious from this passage that readers are being encouraged through these many examples to live by faith (10:38).
Find some specific passages in Hebrew so far that tell us exactly what we should have faith in. Spend some time reflecting on how much your heart is assured of theses promises of God, and some time praying to the LORD in response to these promises.
