Journey to the cross

It is times like these that baffle me
Why You would allow men to drag You out in the middle of the night
when the trap was clear as day
Why You would endure the mockery and beatings
when the crowd was more pitiful
Why You chose to carry that heavy, rugged cross on Your shoulders
when the governor saw no crime in You
Why You would remain on that cross; scorched, bled and died
when You could have summoned your legion of angels
Why You would suffer the abandonment of Your own Father
when Your bond was undeniable
It is times like these that baffle me
How You could keep Your rage within
when i wouldn’t be able to contain mine
How You could forsake the only child You had
when i imagine how it would break Your own heart
How You could choose to love us
when i see no redeeming qualities in men
It is times like these that enlighten me
What mercy You extend
so that we wouldn’t all perish
What grace You possess
so that we may gain instead of lose
What patience You bear
so that we may hear and turn from our ways
What love You have
so that we may belong to You
It is times like these that enlighten me
The mob that jeered
and the stage is set
The stones they throw
and the nails I pin
The depth of our sin
and the height of Your love
The pain of the cross
and the victory assured
