Hebrews #3 1:1-2:4 (Part 2)
Day 1
What did you learn in the first study about how we should respond to Hebrews 1:1-2:4 (*hint: think specifically about 2:1-4)? Begin the week by asking for our God’s help to work on our hearts to get even further in responding rightly as we look more closely at the details this week.
Day 2: Hebrews 1:5-6
We’ll spend this second study looking closely at the OT quotes in 1:5-14. Refer to the wider context of each of the OT quotes (i.e. Read the wider OT passage from which its quoted). (*hint: our OT Overview year will be helpful in understanding the background of each reference).
We’ll start with the first 3 quotes from Psalm 2:7, 2 Samuel 7:14 (also Psalm 89:26,27) and Psalm 97:7.
What is the author saying through quoting these 3 OT passages, and how does it help us understand 1:1-4 and 2:1-4 better?
Day 3: Hebrews 1:7-12
What does the author add to what he has already said by quoting Psalm 104:4 (angels) in contrast to the Son (Psalm 45:6,7 & Psalm 102:25-27)?
Day 4: Hebrews 1:13
Finally, how does Psalm 110:1 fit with what we’ve seen so far in all the OT quotes? (*hint: how Psalm 110 begins is key).
Day 5
When you add together all that we’ve seen in the details of the OT quotes, how does it all help your heart respond in the way the author desires in 2:1-4? Speak to our God who has spoken and still speaks to us by His Son today in response.
