A reflection on Jesus’ Resurrection

Today, we remember and celebrate the significance of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead! And what a glorious, amazing miracle that was.
2 years ago, I stumbled across a song by Andrew Peterson that really got me experiencing anew the wonder of the resurrection. The title is simply “His Heart beats.” His lyrics gripped my imagination on how the resurrection may have occurred, literally helping me visualise the risen Lord coming alive, with the blood flowing in His veins and His first breath in.
His heart beats, His blood begins to flow
Waking up what was dead a moment ago
And His heart beats, now everything is changed
‘Cause the blood that brought us peace with God
Is racing through His veins
And His heart beats, His heart beats.
He breathes in, His living lungs expand
The heavy air surrounding death turns to breath again
He breathes out, He is word and flesh once more
The Lamb of God slain for us is a Lion ready to roar

The sustained rhythmic notes and the lyrics all helped add to the suspense and drama of what must have been such a significant moment in history. Then the song drops into a hymn of praise in response to the miracle of Jesus’ resurrection:
So crown Him the Lord of Life
Crown Him the Lord of Love
Crown Him the Lord of All
He took one breath
And put death to death
Where is your sting, O grave?
How grave is your defeat?
I know, I know His heart beats.
And what are the implications of His risen life? Jesus is the Lord of life, love and all and death itself is destroyed.
Brothers and sisters, what does Jesus’ resurrection mean for you personally today? There’s so much to be in awe of this Easter. Jesus has gone ahead of all of us to show us what is in store for all who will trust in Him, life after death. May this encourage all of us today!
